Over the last 20 years, the field of Digital Plant Pathology (DPP) has revolved around the goal of integrating sensors, machine learning and new technologies into knowledge-based methods for plant phenotyping and plant protection. We are taking a snapshot of the current DPP research landscape while maintaining a good look at the rear-view mirror. With a perspective on the past achievements in this field, we might be able to provide information how to avoid redundant research and focus on relevant future steps to undertake.
